Do You Remember These?
Today I sit wondering just how so much has changed so rapidly. I am sure each generation through history has had the same thoughts, but it seems at times all the advancements have not really changed things for the better. Reading Emily’s blog on this website regarding dating apps, has made me think, WOW, things have really changed. Catfishing in my day required a hook, worm, string, cane pole, and oh yes, a fishing hole. When you caught a catfish, you knew exactly what you had and really knew after it horned your finger trying to get it off the hook. Today catfishing is derived from a 2010 movie “Catfish” about someone who is basically fake. We developed Covert Alert mainly because of all the changes in technology and society, just so people would have an extra layer of protection. Just because you are not 20 or 30 something anymore, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take advantage of all the benefits Covert Alert provides, and if you remember the following through backs from my generation and a smile comes on your face, you are not 20 or 30 something anymore.
1. first cellular car phone. No, you couldn’t text and drive; it had to be very close because the cord wasn’t very long; and about half the time you lost the call. I really thought I had “arrived” when I got my first car phone. WOW, that changed fast!
2. Calling for a taxi was always a 20-minute wait, if you could get through to dispatch. People still hail cabs, but there were no Uber’s and there was no device that showed the Uber would be arriving in 3 minutes with a map showing exactly where it was, and where I was. No one was afraid just to hop in the taxi and there was not much concern if the taxi driver was legit. It was just expected. Today, you must check the driver out, and the car out before you ever get in.
3. 8 track cassettes and the large 8 track players were the hottest item on the market. It was mounted under the dash of my 1974 mustang and took up most of the area just above the hump. After acquiring at least 60 cassettes, I had a large black box I kept in the backseat that I would try to rummage thru while driving to find the cassette I wanted to listen to, well modern technology replaced it quickly, and not long thereafter, even the hump in the car disappeared.
4. .I received my first cassette recorder for Christmas in the 60’s and was amazed that I could talk into a device and it would play back every word. I was recording everything I could. My parents eventually regretted buying it for me because I could record everything and play it back at the most inappropriate times. It was so fascinating, and at times, a bit embarrassing.
5. .The vinyl record player turntable was in almost every home. Whether you owned 45’s or 33’s, it was a necessity to have especially when you needed some down time. I had racks of albums and album covers that I accumulated. Today it is hard to even give them away.
If this trip down memory lane resonates with you, then your 20’s and 30’s are long gone. Just because we didn’t grow up in the “tech” generation of today, doesn’t mean we are too old to be techies. The world has changed dramatically and as we all know, it is not as safe as it used to be. With the advent of the smart phone came a more isolated world. We do not go to visit people or call them on the old rotary phones, we now text to avoid having to talk to someone. Instead of writing a letter with an actual pencil or pen, we now just send an email. Our daily lives seem to be more hectic than ever before, yet technology was supposed to make our lives easier. Facebook has made communicating with others in person, almost obsolete. We post everything we are doing, even somethings we shouldn’t be doing, just so we receive a “Like”.
We splatter our pictures on social media as opposed to taking time to visit someone in person. Yet our world is not safer, far be it. Just read the headlines everyday and you will realize, even if you are in your 40’s, 50’s, 60’s or above, we still need to safeguard ourselves at all times. Covert Alert provides that extra layer of protection and is easy to use. We developed it to add that extra layer of protection. We all have smart phones, so we need to insure they work for us. Staying connected and protected with family, friends, and first responders is essential, and having hands free activation is a must. So regardless of your age, download Covert Alert today, it’s free, and if you get stuck for whatever reason in setting it up, please refer to this Blog or pick up the phone and Call Us!!!
